BAKARY CAMARA

International co-researcher / Mali

International co-researcher, Bakary Camara, is the Dean of the Faculty of Public Law in Bamako and an expert on land rights in Mali. He organized the conference on slavery and the law held in Bamako in 2017, in close collaboration with Marie Rodet.

As part of this project, he leads a young team of local researchers who will conduct 120 days of fieldwork in Mali and will cooperate with TEMEDT on activities related to the legal advice center, exchanges with crucial policymakers, training, and the creation of a legal assistant training program. Together they will organize the closing conference.

With his team at the LERDDL Research Center, Bakary Camara studies issues of property and land rights in western Mali during the 20th century. Such topics are still highly contentious when linked to descent-based slavery.
