From December 1-4, the workshop “Mobility, Mobilisation and Displacement in ‘post-slavery’ West-Africa” took place in Bamako, Mali. Organised by Lotte Pelckmans (SlaFMig / University of Copenhagen) and Paolo Gaibazzi (University of Bayreuth) through the research center Point Sud, different actors came together to exchange and discuss the topics of mobility, descent-based slavery and its repercussions in different countries and contexts.
On September 27th and 28th, a workshop to discuss advancements on the Special Issue “E-Motive histories of female displacements” took place in Gilleleje, Denmark. Close to the refreshing sounds of the Danish Sea, the contributors Lotte Pelckmans, Marie Rodet, Ann McDougall, Francesca Declich and Clare Oxby had productive discussions, presentations and writing sessions to advance the Special Issue. Last July, in Bamako, a SlaFMig workshop brought together administrative and judicial authorities from the Kayes, Koulikoro and Ménaka regions to discuss the issue of descent-based slavery. The presentations and discussions were rich and led to several recommendations. These take into account the complexity and multiple dimensions of the phenomenon and recommend actions in the legislative, political, administrative, socio-economic and
